Have you ever wanted a soundtrack to your life? Like say you were hanging out with some of your friends downtown or you were on a roadtrip, you’d want some sweet tunes to accompany you along the way right? Well you may want to check out some awesome guys in a band called Divided By Friday. They’re an up and coming Pop / Rock / Progressive band from Laurinburg, NC. The quartet includes Jose Villanueva who does lead vocals and plays guitar, Matt Morgan on guitar and back vocals, Al German on drums, and Drew Howard on bass. The guys just recently signed with Hopeless Records and are making headway in their music journey with their EP “Prove It” which is now on iTunes.
When the guys joined Hopeless Records this is what they had to say.
“It’s really been a dream come true for us to sign with Hopeless Records. They’re the perfect fit for us and we’re so stoked about our future together. We’ve always been such huge fans of all the bands on the Hopeless roster, so it’s very surreal for us to be joining such an amazing and talented family.”
A talented family indeed. Some other artist on the Hopeless team include All Time Low, There For Tomorrow, Anarbor, Yellowcard, We Are The In Crowd, The Wonder Years, and Enter Shikari to name a few. I know I’d be happy joining that label, wouldn’t you?
Now let’s get down to the music. In short let me just say that, well, it’s great! If you’re ever stuck inside on a rainy day or if it’s the middle of winter and you’re begging for the warm sun of summer turn on some DBF and turn it up loud! If I had to describe their sound in one word it would be summer. They make you want to jump in the car and head for the beach. And I mean who doesn’t love the beach? Crazy people that’s who. And you’d be out of your mind not to give these guys a chance. Plus if any of you guys are longing for the days of FOB then you’ll love hearing Jose’s voice, it reminds me a lot of Patrick Strump’s.
The Ep’s titled “Prove It” which happens to be the first of the 8 tracks that are on the cd. The Ep is all pretty up-tempo with the exception of the song “Face to Face” which also happens to be one of my favorites. “Prove It” and “The Dark Passenger” are also some of my more liked songs. One song that isn’t on “Prove It” but I really love is “Disappoint: Surprise”. DBF also has a video for the song, which I loved, and I’ll post it below the review for you all to see.
They are touring right now with Phone Calls From Home and Move Out West so if you can go out and show your support. Dates can be found on their Facebook. If I wasn’t going out of town on holiday on Friday I would go see them Saturday night at Swayze’s which is near my hometown. I will be sending them my best wishes though and hopefully a few friends to go in my place.
So if you ever need some good mood tunes or you ever just need to feel like the care free breeze of summer listen to Divided By Friday and you won’t be disappointed. Be sure to get a copy of “Prove It” on iTunes. Stop by Smartpunk and you can get a T-Shirt!
