Interview with Jonas Sees In Color

Felipe Gomez August 21, 2010 0

With an innovative sound that blurs the lines of indie, rock, and punk music; and an explosive stage presence that audiences have come to love and expect, Jonas Sees In Color has been making friends and breaking hearts all over the US.

Rejecting the normal detachment that divides bands and their fans, Jonas Sees In Color instead strives to create a friendship with fans, building an atmosphere of acceptance and optimism that surrounds every performance.

How would you describe your sound?

Jonas Sees In Color is a mix of indie, punk, and good ol’ rock n roll.

So you say the name Jonas Sees In Color is a Metaphor, Why’s that?

In the book “The Giver” by Lois Lowry, the main character lives in a black and white world. When he is chosen to take on the responsibility of the hopes, thoughts, and feelings of his entire village, he finally begins to see in color.

The name is a metaphor because one of the most important goals of our music is to create a connection with the listener by accurately connecting the stories and ideas contained in our music in a way that allows the listener to take and interpret the songs as their own. This way, the listener is just as important as the artist. After all, music doesn’t mean much if no one is listening to it.

What’s something fun that has happened while playing a show?

Every show is fun in a different way…we’re lucky enough to have awesome, crazy fans that make every show a unique, insane experience. They can get pretty rowdy, and we love it!

Who or what inspired you to begin Jonas Sees In Color?

We decided to make the music we wanted to listen to.

Why do you like to make music together?

We have a chemistry together…there is some special ingredient when I’m playing with this group of people that I can’t describe.

What’s the best part of playing live shows?

The fans. They’re incredible.

How did you guys meet?

We’ve been friends for a long time; some of us have known others for over 10 years.

Jonas Sees In Color is Ryan Downing (vocals) Jonathan David Owens (guitar and vocals) Meagan Beth Plummer(keyboards)Jonathan Albright (guitar) Michael Deming (bass) John Chester(drums)

What’s new in the recording of you music?

We made a record in Denver Colorado with platinum producer Aaron Johnson (The Fray). It’s in stores and online now!

Any pet peeves?

Snoring. Hahaha! I hate snoring.

How’s 2010 treating you?

INCREDIBLE. And it’s only gettin’ better!
