Interview with My Lady Four

Felipe Gomez August 21, 2010 1

My Lady Four is an alternative band formed by Brian, Carp, Peter & Francis. With a refreshing style and sound, Panic At the Disco fans will love this band.

They use smooth instrument sounds and vocals mixed with what could be some digital sounds hiding on the background, either way their songs are beautiful and up lifting.

What would you say, makes you stand out as a band?

That’s a great question! I could say that it’s our DIY mentality, booking months of tour on our own and promoting it, or that our music sets us apart from other bands, but I think the thing that sets us apart most is our devotion to our fans. I think fame is both earned and owed, and if that’s the case, we owe a lot of people for being amazing and sticking with us. (Brian)

Have the members changed since you first started?

Not a bit. We’ve always sorta been a little goofy, and we believe strongly in not changing who we are for anything.

How would you classify your music style?

I generally call it “Modern Rock”. I mean that’s what it is after all. The term rock has gotten a lot of use. I mean, we call The Beatles and Elvis rock, and then turn around and call Switchfoot rock. I think what we’ve always been shooting for is relevant rock and roll music, cutting edge stuff that hopefully hasn’t been done a million times before. I think our new album, “In This Life Or The Next” really starts to show this.

Who or what inspired you to begin a band?

I was actually inspired most by a band called Skillet, and by the people who told me I could never, and would never play music. It seems like throughout my musical career I’ve had friends and family tell me it wasn’t a good idea, some being polite, others not so much, but it just fueled my fire to move forward.

What’s on your ipod?

Hmm. A lot actually, but here are a few of my favorites! Taking Back Sunday, Underoath, Lost Prophets, Switchfoot, Brand New, Jason Mraz, Katy Perry, Coldplay, and Dashboard Confessional.

What are the main topics in your songs?

Our songs talk about a variety of things, but mostly we talk about relevant things that we hope are relatable. Things like love, hope, triumph against all odds, and that constant battle inside each one of us.

Why “My Lady Four”?

The long and short of it is this: when picking a band name, everybody argues about what they think the name should be for hours/days/weeks, even months. So when finally the magical moment comes where you all don’t “hate” a name, or sort of like it, and in those 10 seconds you agree on it, you just decide to keep it, and try and put out of your mind whether or not it’s your “favorite” band name. :) In those ten seconds, we came up with My Lady Four.

What’s your music purpose in 6 words?

To bring hope to people everywhere.

What’s your favorite song to play live?

Probably “Sometimes The Bear Eats You…” though my current favorites are all on our new record which should be releasing sometime in the fall/winter.

If you were a Pokemon, which one would you like to be?

Definitely Bulbasaur. What’s better than having a plant on your back that can destroy people if they mess with you?

Is there any band you would love to share the stage with?

Absolutely! Dashboard Confessional or Taking Back Sunday probably. I would love that.
